Author of How-To Guide for Pedophilia Arrested
CNN:
The man behind a controversial book considered a “how-to” guide for pedophiles was arrested in Colorado, officials in Florida said Monday.
[…]
Greaves and his book, “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct,” gained national attention earlier this year after Amazon.com defended selling the book on its website despite angry comments and threats of boycotts from thousands of users.
[…]
Judd said he was frustrated that Greaves’ book was protected under freedom of speech laws, even though it was created “specifically to teach people how to sexually molest and rape children.”

Freedom of Speech in the United States is really a funny concept: we have the freedom to say or print anything we want, as long as it does not infringe upon the rights of others. In this sense, producing child pornography is illegal, even if no children were involved. It counts even if the image of the child has been drawn or computer generated.
These pornography laws, for some reason, do not include literary depictions of sex acts, despite the very definition of pornography:
por·nog·ra·phy - n
obscene writings, drawings, photographs, or like, esp. those having little or no artistic merit.
But that really shouldn’t give anyone the right to depict children in that manner. It certainly shouldn’t give someone the right to encourage others to break the law.
According to the Supreme Court case Brandenburg v. Ohio, it is illegal to advocate unlawful activity. It seems to me that writing a guide instructing people to commit rape is exactly that.
I don’t understand how this went as far as it did. This man needs serious counseling. I can’t even believe that people are so greedy that they would actually sell this book, understanding its content.
I, myself, am a great enemy of censorship, but I also believe that your rights stop where mine begin. This man has infringed upon the rights of minors across the country, and he has broken the law. I just hope this mess can be cleared up before anyone follows the book’s instructions.
Blagojevich Wants Guilty Verdict Thrown Out

NY Times:
Rod R. Blagojevich, the former governor of Illinois, wants a federal judge to throw out his conviction for lying to federal agents, the single count the jury found him guilty of in August.
“The very manner in which prosecutors brought this case to trial before the court was dishonest, improper and constituted ‘judge shopping,’ ” the motion said. “It kick-started the prosecutors’ win-at-any-cost tactics.”
Of course, if you’re convicted, it must be because the jury of your peers doesn’t know what it’s doing.
“Oh, okay, it’s fine. The jury must have been confused. How could you be guilty of anything. We should really get some smarter jurors. Ones who can see through the prosecution’s evil plots.”
The judicial system is great.
Man Gets 90 Days For Murder
WABC:
Officer Andrew Kelly plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Wednesday.
Kelly’s attorney said his client did a lot of soul searching, and wanted to avoid both families a painful and long trial.
[…]
“He apologizes with me, and then I accept his apology, so I believe he was sorry for what he done,” Pastor Varius Valnord, the victim’s father, said.
[…]
Kelly struck a deal just a week before the case was set to go to trial and plead guilty to second degree vehicular manslaughter.
His sentence was 90 days in Rikers. Initially, he faced up to 7 years in prison.
[…]
Kelly may only end up serving 60 days of that sentence.

This story is ridiculous. This whole judicial system is ridiculous. Policemen are above the law. The officer says he admits that he had been drinking beer the night he “plowed into [the victim] in his Jeep.” He was not just drinking beer, he had drunk enough to kill a full-grown woman.
And now, after driving while completely inebriated and murdering somebody, he gets ninety days in jail. What the hell? I also love that it says he “admitted he had been drinking beer,” because that means a breathalyzer wasn’t administrated that night. Policemen can get away with whatever they want because they’re policemen. And the judges obviously let them.
Who on earth was the judge presiding over this case? Who on earth accepted this horrible plea bargain? The district attorney should be immediately disbarred. I cannot believe this man may only have to go to jail for sixty days for going on a drunken rampage and killing someone.
And also, Andrew Kelly was not “sorry for what he done;” Andrew Kelly was sorry he got caught. This is the most outrageous example of abuse of the justice system I have ever seen, and I’ve seen policemen play video games on duty, one cop liberally use the N-word, and a police officer arrest a man for being black.
But the answer is simple: pay police officers more money. Police officers provide a service to the community that endangers their lives everyday. The problem is that they are not paid their due. Instead, they are “paid” in power. They can literally commit misdemeanors, and in some cases felonies, with little or no consequences. This is the problem with the justice system.
But in the meantime, they should have to follow the law like everyone else.
Georgia Mayor Bans Baggy Pants
CNN:
The mayor of Dublin, Georgia, is expected to sign an ordinance Tuesday that prohibits the wearing of saggy pants. Violators face fines up to $200.
The amendment to the municipality’s indecent exposure ordinance will be put into immediate effect at the city council meeting, Mayor Phil Best told CNN.
[…]
The mayor said after about a year of fielding complaints, he put the city attorney to work researching how other localities have dealt with the derriere dilemma. The result was that council members decided to put exposure due to baggy clothing in the same category as masturbation, fornication and urination in public places.

Now, do old people think that baggy pants are disrespectful? Yes. But what don’t old people think are disrespectful? Old people freak out if you wear a hat or put your elbows on the table or pointing at something. But there haven’t been any laws prohibiting blowing your nose at the table.
Yet there is now a law in place that compares sagging to public masturbation. Is there something wrong with people? I don’t get it. How can you be as offended by seeing a waistband as you are by seeing a man masturbating next to you?
And even though that seems ridiculous, utterly preposterous, it is how these people think. Is sagging rude? Maybe. Maybe it is rude, and maybe you are put off by it, but sorry. Get over it. It’s not the end of the world. Your virgin eyes aren’t going to bleed out of their sockets for seeing a waistband. Minor etiquette has no place in the judicial system.
On the Proposed Qur’an Burnings
CNN:
In protest of what it calls a religion “of the devil,” a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Has anyone ever read a book before? Throughout literature, there have been stories written about the horrors of burning books. It’s just a despicable thing to do. The story is different; the message is the same: burning books is not only ignorant; it’s bad for society.
A few practitioners of biblioclasm:
- The Catholic Church (Pre-Reformation)
- Adolf Hitler and the Nazis
- Joseph Stalin and the Soviets
- Muslim extremists
Why some people believe that they should be actively fighting Islam is beyond me. Don’t children’s TV shows teach us anything? Sinking down to a bully’s level makes you no better than the bully.
And also, not only are you not in any way fighting against Muslim extremists, you are also endangering fellow Americans in the Middle East:
CNN:
The U.S. commander in Afghanistan on Monday criticized a Florida church’s plan to burn copies of the Quran on September 11, warning the demonstration “could cause significant problems” for American troops overseas.
“It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan,” Gen. David Petraeus said in a statement issued Monday.
Christian Church Built at Ground Zero
ABC:
NEW YORK (WABC) — Florida televangelist Bill Keller began the first service of his new 9/11 Christian church at ground zero on Sunday.
“The reports that this is a hate-filled situation has blown me away. We’re not here to preach hate, we’re here to preach the truth of the bible,” Keller said.
[…]
“If they want to go there and preach the lies of Islam, I can come and preach the truth of the Bible,” Keller said.
I’m proud to live in a nation where you can chose whatever religion you want to follow, and you can practice your religion wherever you want to. Oh, wait, never mind—that’s just for Christians.
Televangelist Bill Keller claims that he is just countering the spread of Islam at Ground Zero. That’s fine; that’s okay…Except there is nothing to counter. Sure, they want to build an Islamic community center there, but there has been debate over it for almost a year, and it still hasn’t been built. But now, a Christian church pops up to counter it. Bill Keller is countering Islam at Ground Zero like the United States was countering Communism in Vietnam.
We can look at Bill Keller background: he earned a degree from an Evangelical college while he was in prison. Bill Keller is an ex-con who is preaching about the crimes of others.
Keller says he had to bring his stand against Islam to New York and ground zero.
“Because their brothers killed 3,000 people on 9/11. If you look at the Qur’an it is hate, violence, and death,” Keller said.
Well, at least he’s educated in Islam, and he knows what the Qur’an is really about—oh, wait, no he doesn’t. I’d feel safer at Park 51 than in Bill Keller’s church any day.
“Subway Bandit” Arrested

WBTV:
FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) - Officials in York County have arrested a Fort Mill man who they are calling the “Subway Bandit” and he is wanted as a suspect in 17 burglaries throughout York County.
[…]
The sheriff’s office says he is wanted for 17 burglaries in and around York County including the following locations:
- Subway, 302 Springcrest Drive, Fort Mill,
- Subway, 3160 Highway 21, Fort Mill,
- Subway, 2349 Cherry Road, Rock Hill,
- Subway, 572 John Ross Parkway, Rock Hill,
- Subway, 119 South Herlong, Rock Hill
This is like a bad episode of Batman. Really, this just seems stupid to me. He doesn’t even rob a string of banks, he robs Subways. I can’t imagine how he got away with seventeen burglaries, it seems obvious to me where one should look for the thief.
How much easier could it be to catch a burglar?
Policeman: Listen, Chief, another Subway was robbed last night.
Chief: Oh! that bandit gets us every time. He’s so unpredictable! Did you find any clues as to where he might strike next?
Policeman: No…but I think I know where.
Chief: If we wanted to be led by a hunch, we’d have hired Quasimodo; now get back to work and look for clues! The bandit could be anywhere in town.
Policeman: Whatever you say, Chief… Whatever.
I just don’t understand how he got away with three burglaries, much less seventeen. This all just seems ridiculous.
Seven Girls “Run Away Together”
KHOU:
KINGWOOD, Texas – The disappearances of seven teenage girls in less than two months have prompted a concerned parent to question the system that labels them “runaways.”
If the police department of Kingwood, Texas, have not figured out that seven girls within a 14,000-acre community didn’t run away, then it needs to start intensive logic training. It doesn’t make sense that seven girls within one community run away within two months of each other.
An investigation needs to start. Quickly. These girls were kidnapped and they need to be found before something really bad happens to them.
“Prince Of Pot” Pleads Guilty To…Manufacturing Pot
CNN:
A man known as Canada’s “prince of pot” pleaded guilty Monday in a deal with prosecutors that could send him to prison in the United States for five years.
Marijuana activist Marc Emery pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Seattle, Washington, to a single count of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana following an 18-month investigation into the seed-selling business Emery operated from his head shop in Vancouver, British Columbia.

So the guy who speaks publicly about marijuana, lives in Canada, and owns a head shop manufactures marijuana. If this isn’t the biggest “No, duh!” of the year, I can’t imagine what people will undertake an 18-month investigation for next. The anteater who is suspected of eating ants? The fish arrested under the suspicion of swimming?
An 18-month investigation to find out if the Prince of Pot is who he really says he is is a waste of time and detectives. People everywhere are getting away with crimes that might not be the most obvious thing ever.
Should marijuana be illegal? No. Should the prisons of America be overcrowded and low on funds and supplies because of marijuana-related crimes? No. But until these things are changed, Marc Emery is going to be preaching from inside a federal prison about how they should be. It’s just a waste of so many people’s efforts.
