27,000 Inmates May Be Let Out Early
(CNN) — A controversial bill that California legislators say would allow the early release of more than 27,000 inmates from crowded prisons will be taken up by the state Assembly on Monday.
Now, prison sentences are definitely too strcit considering how flawed the entire American justice system is. A group of people decide who’s innocent and who’s not by unanimous vote, and one could get up to 85 years for smoking pot.
What I believe should be done is that every prisoner in jail for flat possession should be freed now and possession should not even be a crime; that’s not going to happen and I accept this, so the other thing I would do is exactly what the California bill is about to do.
The prisons are overcrowded, and I’m not supporting the statement that the close spaces infringe upon the prisoners rights, but I will say that keeping these noviolent people in jail for years and years and years is wasting a good bit of money (approximately $524.5 million).
And jail, as I’ve stated, is a terrible place. If it wasn’t, it would be room and board for me and all the others down on Royal St. This is a good idea, no innocent person will get hurt by passing this bill.
