Teacher Beats Autistic Student
PITTSBURGH — Cell phone video posted on YouTube showing a teacher hitting an autistic student prompted a family to sue Pittsburgh Public Schools.
What is mentally wrong with this teacher? We all sympathize with teachers every now and then because they have a rough job. But I feel absolutely no sympathy for this teacher who thinks that she can take discipline into her own hands and hit a child!
Teachers aren’t supposed to hit children anyway! If there is any corporal punishment going on, it’s the administrators (with permission of the parents) that do it.
But this teacher thinks that she can traumatically beat a child for misbehaving. Not just a regular child, but a child with Autism. A child that, in some situations, doesn’t understand that he or she would be misbehaving.
As for firing this woman, that is the best thing the school system could have done. I mean, what other children has this woman hit? The blind kid for bumping into other students? The epileptic for seizing during class?
It takes patience, kindness, understanding, and sympathy to be a teacher (especially one that deals with disabled children), traits which this woman never possessed.
